Part 3: Macro vs. Close-up (continued)

Diopter filters typically come in +1, +2, 3+ and +4 strengths: the larger the number, the stronger the magnification. 

While diopter lens are very inexpensive and make a reasonable alternative for close-up photography, they tend to be a bit "soft" at the edges compared to true macro lenses.

I mentioned previously that there is no substitute for good glass. After using a true macro lens for the first time I was hooked, and never went back to standard lenses.  With a macro you can shoot from a distance and still capture tiny creatures.
