While there is a difference between close-up and macro
photography, I will interchange the terms for simplicity.
Close-up photography actually involves the use of diopter lenses.
Diopter, or close-up filters,
screw onto the front of a lens, and make an inexpensive
alternative to true macro lenses. The picture below shows how a
50mm lens and a +1 diopter were used to capture detail.
