Underwater Housings: (continued)

Professional housings for digital SLR (DSLR) cameras:
Though substantially more expensive than the compact housings, they meet the demands of pro photographers who require a full range of accessories to accommodate a wide variety of lenses and strobes.

Pro Housings

With this type of housing, the photographer can access virtually any control, and select from a variety of ports.

Typically they are made from machined metal, or a combination of machined metal and plastic.  The ports are often optical grade glass, as opposed to the plastic found in compact housings.  Because of the cost of creating such high-quality housings, they are generally used by photographers with a professional interest.  And a budget to match.

Part 2. Ports:
Having a wonderful collection of lenses in the camera bag is often what prompts a serious photographer to buy a professional housing over a simple point-and-shoot system in the first place.

Regrettably, to take advantage of all those lenses the photographer will soon incur another cost: ports for the various lenses.
