Underwater Housings: (continued)
Amphibious
Cameras:
Amphibious cameras deserve
their own category because both the camera and housing are wedded
together from the design stage (conventional housings are
generally "aftermarket" products accommodating a camera that is
made from another manufacturer).
In truth, the name is somewhat
of a misnomer since a true amphibious camera, like my
much-missed Nikonos, is completely waterproof without the need for
a housing.
Nonetheless, in amphibious
cameras the housing is so perfectly fitted around the camera that
at first glance it appears to be a single unit.

The advantage of these cameras
is that they are extremely compact, easy-to-use, and relatively
inexpensive compared to full-sized housing. In addition,
supplemental lenses can be attached underwater as shown in
the Sea & Sea above.
