Underwater Housings: (continued)
3. Dome ports inherently
"saturate colors" to give extremely pleasing results.
4. They create the possibility
of creating a "virtual" image.
Simply put, there is a point at which "virtually" everything is in
focus.
Generally, the virtual image is
approximately 1.5 times the diameter of the dome. Not only
does this eliminate the need for focusing in many cases, but it
allows the possibility of "50/50" shots --images that are
half-above, half-below the water line.
Virtual images and over/under
photography are explained in the 50/50
section.
Part 3: Housings and your
wallet:
The starting
point for any photographer is based on budgetary considerations
and existing camera equipment. If you already own a
complete camera system with lenses, a matched housing seems to
be the obvious choice. And if money is not a factor, that's certainly true. But if money is
an influencing factor, there's another approach to putting
together a system. Here's the explanation...
A complete underwater camera
system requires several accessories, and the total package
price can be prohibitively expensive.
