Blackbar Soldierfish
Myripristis jacobus

A Blackbar Soldierfish, its dorsal fins erect, patrols in front of an orange sponge. Normally shy, they rarely venture far from the safety of caves and coral outcroppings.

Bonaire, Dutch Antilles

Sea Facts:

Tiny coral polyps are the major reef building organisms of the seas. Corals secrete calcium carbonate (limestone) and build massive colonial structures. In fact, the Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space.
