Artificial reefs have met with great success in many parts of
the world. In order to counter growing coral destruction,
man-made objects are placed on the seafloor to create a solid
substrate for colonizing organisms like corals and sponges.
Often larger animals will appear soon after the reef is in
place. Barracuda have been known to patrol artificial reefs
