"Seal Race"

A mother harbor seal and her new born pup race down the beach, preparing to dive into the surf.

Fort Bragg, California

Seal Facts:

Though seals and sea Lions both belong to the order of Pinnipedia (fin footed) they have many obvious differences. Seals have no ear flaps, like sea lions. Sea lions are also called "sea dogs" because of the barking noises they make. By contrast, seals are much less vocal, except when young: the pups make "plaintive" cries when calling for their mothers.
